Smart Home Systems are mainly about the connections & communications between the devices and to control the same. The wired communication is much preffered mode of communication in several cases. KNX, one of the widely used automation standard, is purely wired mode of communication. Followed by numerous open protocols based on wired communication. The wired systems are considered to be stable as well as very effective in case of smart homes due to stable communication with no issues related to no signal or blind zones. The wireless systems have importance in the automation industry, the systems help in elemination of the cables hence can be used anywhere, anytime & in any way. The widely used wireless communication protocols are Zigbee, Zwave etc. The difference between the systems is range of communication & cost factor. Their are several wireless communication protocols in practice. The wireless communication systems are economical and mostly user friendly in terms of installation with minimum efforts. Most of the wireless automation products are available as DIY kits. In several projects, we can find the tough routes for the cables or concrete walls causing the onstruction or snag for communication. In such cases, designs are based on hybrid communication, means combination of wired & wireless devices. The various communication techniques used for communication are based on energy harvesting techniques, PLC communication etc. The energy harversting techqniques ensure for everlasting life for the devices, and PLC types allow to use the existing cables as the power line carriers. The products and modules are selected on the basis of project requirement, every product of any standard have serious impact of price as well as results. The careful selection, planing and implementation is of vital importance.
