CCTV Video Transmission and Compression
Bandwidth is an issue & so is the management of video in a more efficient way during the transmission & reception. The larger file size & smaller bandwidth, whatever the case if the specific factions are not considered, whole the transmission will get effected and desired results will not be achieved. The video transmission in surveillance is for two reasons either for remote monitoring at the control stations or to transfer the data to storage devices.
The factors that need to be considered regarding the video transmission are very much dependent on each other. Like Codec is dependent on the key frames as it is the codec that will determine a key frame (reference) for every few frame cycle. The Infrequent key frames will leave lots of image units. The lower compression rate lets many image units to lose. The amount of data, video uses per second are referred as bit/data rate & remain constant throughout the video. The frame rate which usually is 25 fps (PAL)/30 fps (NTSC) & resolution of the video at the time of compression have very much importance for the online transmission. Hence summing up all; codec, key frame, frame rate, bit/data rate, resolution are very important to be considered.
In an era of modern technology, the video signal is compressed in very unique way for the transmission with different streams each. The streams are for recording Remotely, Mobile & Surveillance (RMS). There are three basic techniques used for the transmission of videos or any data on the networks Broadcast, Uni-cast & Multicast out of which Multicast is deemed to be the most referred way for many reasons.
In broadcast technique, the IP CCTV camera transmits the data on the network to all connected terminals regardless of the actual destination hence not desired. While as in Uni-cast the communication exists between IP CCTV camera and destination thereby the data transmitted is increased by the number of destinations that place the request for data. Multicast is essentially the efficient way of transmitting the data over the network. Here connections are made by making multicast group actually the IP address of video stream, not as a direct connection between source and destination. Hence the network does not get overloaded or congested. So the data transmission to each destination remains same.
Unicast means one to one
Broadcasting means one to complete network
Multicast means one-to-many or many-to-many distribution and is preferred one.
